The Human Machine

The purpose of the project was to make a statement on the presence of the internet on us humans. In reality it is hard to enforce and ensure that everyone uses the internet in a safe and healthy manner. As we rely more and more on the internet we become more exposed to the risks tied to the internet. Eventually we become not individuals, but just pieces of data.

The project envisions a scenario where there is total reliance and integration onto the internet. Thus the government has set up a Sector of Data Analytics in order to curtail the issues in the internet. The Sector monitors every aspect of the citizens internet usage 24/7 and immediately flags and shuts down any improper activity to maintain the integrity of the internet, at the cost of disregarding the citizens’ privacy. Staff work in 22 hour cycles and enter floatation sleep chambers to recharge themselves for the next work cycle in order to maintain the safe humane internet environment. Ironically, in doing so the Sector becomes a human machine due to the unethical and extreme actions they take.

The project asks, “Is this the cost we must bear for a safe internet?”.
